Naughty Naughty Xmas

Happy Holidays everyone.
So last week I went on another road trip to Austin. This time was to check out Seth Troxler dj at Barcelona. I've always liked Barcelona....It's dark, underground with a nice sound. The times I've been to this venue it's usually music I do not like much. I'm surprised Seth got a booking in Austin. I think the music lovers needed this. People from El Paso, Dallas, San Antonio, Houston and of course the RGV came together to make this party happen. Troxler's set put me on a trip. He took you on all kinds of musical tastes. From techno, tech house, house to slower stuff. I really like how he played, very different. I was a little annoyed how some people went up to the dj booth and bothered him....and he did look annoyed at times. Just let the man play music. Towards the end of the night I think the RGV people made there stamp lol!! Most of us were in the front of the dj booth jammin, dancing, jumping showing love for Seth. One of my buddies Jay took 3D glasses from the movie Tron. Sure enough Troxler was wearing them...haha!!
2 of my friends went to the after party with Seth. I was too tired to go. I had only slept 3 hours or less plus I had drove to Austin..exhausting. FUN night over all. Many thanks to the Project Hi crew for doing this party.
As for the next night....I don't remember much. I got drunk at Lanai listening to Swedish House Mafia tunes.
That's it for now.... ciao!

thankful

Hello whoever is reading. I think the last I posted was a month ago. Once again I will say this....I'm going to try to keep this thing updated when I can. I've been busy lately with school and work. It's killing me. Since I've posted I'm not sure if a lot has happened. But here it goes.
Not too long ago all of my equipment got stolen from my car!!! My macbook, my traktor X1 controller and my Audio 8 interface. I can't really explain the feeling I felt. I was not mad nor sad. I guess you can say I was more bummed than anything. I saved and worked hard on getting those things. When I was done djing my set...I had left my stuff in my car in the back. All doors were locked. I'm pretty sure someone used a slim jim to get in there. Also I'm sure someone followed me. Who would do such a thing??? The feeling was indescribable. It's as if someone took my soul away! I seriously almost felt depressed for a moment! haha!! But now things are back to normal. I got my things back the following week. My buddy had considered on going half with me on some of the equipment. What good friends I have don't I????!! I'm thankful for my friends. And Thanksgiving past...hope everyone had a good one. I usually spend time with the fam. But instead I spent it at my friends house this year.
During thanksgiving weekend my buddies and I from Cromarti Records decided to host an event that was FREE with free cds and t shirts to be given away. With some ALRIGHT music being played. I was not expecting a lot of people from the get go. Maybe just the usually gang and friends. But sure enough during my dj set...slowly but surely the main house at Cine El Rey was slowly getting full! Btw we decided to do the show in the main stage....which is huuuggee!! Around 12-12:30 into my set I would sometimes look up at the crowd n look around. It made me put a smile on my face. I had so much fun at this event. Also i got very very drunk. Was a great time all around. I had more fun then the Justin Martin show. Don't get me wrong JM was fun as well. But the vibe for this night was something else just for local dj's. The after party was crazy as well. I know I called out 2 promoters and a dj....but they deserved it..and was very annoyed by them.
I think that's all I have to say for now.....Many thanks for those who were there for me to lift my spirit up again. Much love!

cioa.

Cut Copy

So I hear Cut Copy is working on there third album. They always come thru with there tunes. You know what that means, they are gonna tour pretty soon. Once they are in Texas, I am there. I saw these guys in Austin 2 years ago. I had a blast. At the time The Presets were there opening act...couldn't ask for anything else. All there material sounds fresh...I hope with this album it continues like that.

Aftermath I

So the month of September has been interesting. I had two EP releases this month. Terraza ep and Martleb Remixes ep. One of the remixes from the Martleb EP got charted by Hernan Cattaneo. Hernan is one of the most well known and respected djs in the world. It feels good that he has been playing one of my tunes. That was big news!
Moving on...I took a road trip to Austin recently to catch one of my favorite bands Miami Horror. It really was a disappoint. My first time being at The Phoenix (venue) is a nice club. They had open bar from 9-10pm. That was great. There was a fashion show...that was ok. There was 3 bands on the line up. The first band...completely forgot the name of the band...I didn't really like it. I didn't move from where I was sitting. The second band French Horn Rebellion. They seemed cool. But I noticed from the stage...the sound was not great at all. You could not hear the guys vocals at all. I knew from there that Miami Horror was not going to be all that great either. I'm a sound guy myself. I need to be in a club where it HAS to be loud n clear so I can enjoy the music....or at least get in some kind of groove. The band took a long while to set up. They didn't start the music until 2am. I noticed there was problems with some of there keyboards and used a different kind. As soon as they got on...the sound did not change at all. Big failure on that. I don't what else to say about the night. The sound makes a difference everywhere to me! I can't really say anything bad about the band, it had nothing to do with them. Oh yea...another thing that stood out the most was this guy that smelled realllllyyyy bad. Whoever is reading this and went to the show, you probably know who I'm talking about! Haha! Smelled so bad my nose hairs fell out.
Day 2 of the weekend. I had to be back for my show that I created. I booked Justin Martin at Cine El Rey. The whole 5 hr drive all I was thinking about is the SOUND and people attending. After the whole Miami Horror show I knew I wasn't going to let that happen for this night! All I had to do was wait really. I had the sound going early. And the sound was great! Had so many people calling and txting. I got tired of it. I was running around like a mad man. Time flew so fast that 11pm came around. That was my time to dj. After my set I was given so many props. That was cool. I had fun...looked like the whole venue had fun. The crowd that came in was good looking crowd. That's what I liked! All the events I do is all about FUN. Always. Just like my any other gig I do really. Just have fun and enjoy yourself. Justin Martin played a awesome set by the way. He rocked the party. Justin told me himself that McAllen is way better than most of his other gigs. That's really good to hear. I know there's a scene down here. Just got to have hope. I'm trying to make it bigger! This night made up for Miami Horror that's for sure!

ciao!

Here is my set from Justin Martin. Cheers.

Noice

Tanner Ross & Sergio Santos - NOICE! Presents Culprit, Proton Radio - 28-07-2010 by R_co

A mix worth checking out by Tanner Ross and Sergio Santos. I've been loving this sound for a while. Also I have been playing it during my sets. It's a lot more slower tempo in dance music. It gets your hips rocking.

Rey Aguilar - La Terraza EP

Link to listen/downlad:
http://beatport.com/s/t5PLUt

After more than a year. These 3 tunes have finally been released! Some of you all might have heard them a long time some of you might have not heard them at all. I made these tunes last summer. It's a little more on the tech house side of things. A genre I'm trying to stay away from now. The productions I have been making at the moment is a lot more slower and more groovey. Anyway...these tunes are out thru Moma Recordings from Spain. The label seems to be legit with the artists they have on the label. I think its an upcoming label to look out for. As always feedback is appreciated.

Miami Horror / The Strokes

For those who don't know who Miami Horror is. They an electro-pop act from Australia with a disco throw back style. I've been listening to Benjamin's (producer of the band) music probably since around 06' or 07'. They just released there first debut album 2 weeks ago. Must say....it has to be one of the best I've heard in a while from a band. For those who know me...you all know I'm a big fan of this band. As well as the whole 80's disco sound. Something I can't get enough of. This tune 'Holidays' has to be one of my favorites on this album. Alan Palomo from Neon Indian/Vega is on the vocals. Miami Horror will be performing in Austin at Phoenix Sept 17th. Will do my best to catch these guys. I always miss them during SXSW. I'm sure they will do good!

I'm sure everyone knows The Strokes. Probably the best band this past decade....to me that is. They have a new album coming out soon. Can't wait for that. These guys will be performing at ACL. I'm not too sure about making it to the festival. But...I might catch them at Stubb's October 6th.

After The Beginning

?¿? - After The Beginning by reyaguilar

Finally!, after a year and a half in the making the continuation Mix to the already CLASSIC 303s & 808s is here! Picking up right where we left off, this Mix moves from the beginning of Chicago House to 'After The Beginning' New York House. Tracks we picked for this Mix were strictly from 1990-1994, during these years House Music began to flourish in New York and you could feel and hear the love that was coming out of these tracks. Even at the child age of 3 years House Music's sound was getting more and more sophisticated, so release your inner child and take a trip down memory lane back to the good ol' days of House. We're sure you'll LOVE listening to this Mix from the comfort of your home or while taking a stroll in Central Park.

Back to Basics

Hola! It's been a minute I haven't posted. As always I have been busy. The past two months I have been working on a lot of new material of music. Now that I'm going back to school I need to manage more of my time. This coming Friday I have La Terraza EP coming out on Moma Recordings (A record label from Spain). Also this Friday is McAllen's Art Walk....that's always fun. I have more releases coming out soon. Keep updated on here!
I have been part of a few shows I have help put together...such as Steve Porter, Chris Fortier and Lazaro Casanova. Coming September 18th on a Saturday. I will be booking Justin Martin from dirtybird records. That will most def be a fun party! I am very excited for this show. The show will be upstairs at Cine El Rey in downtown McAllen.
I have a lot more to say....but keep back to stay updated!

ciao!

Rey Aguilar - Slow & Sexy June Mix

Rey Aguilar - Slow & Sexy June Mix by reyaguilar

What up everyone.
Here's my latest mix. The title of the mix says it all. Here's a new style that is blowing up in certain cities like New York. This type is mainly for after hours or played during the day for your listening pleasure. The tempo is much slower than the usual house sets I do. I've been pushing this sound as of late. That's what I usually try to do for this area, bring new genres. Those of you all who are familiar with the Crosstown Rebels record label or the Wolf + Lamb crew from NY, they've been making this style global.
Tracklist will be up soon.
cheers!

Dj's got fashion too

Me and my friend were talking about how dj's have a big part in the fashion world. Even locally, doesn't have to be well known artists. I remember when I was younger my sister would always tell me to change my style up. I really wasn't into fashion at all. I always kept it simple...and still do! Dj's should always have there own thing going on...it's part of your image and whats gonna represent you and your music. I've noticed guys like Loco Dice wearing a plaid shirt and some spizike Jordan's. He's influenced from hip hop...so he has is own style going on. There's big minimal guys who just wear nothing but a v-neck shirt. I think it represents them and the music...just simple. I'm sure you can find that with any dj.
There's local guys h
ere that always talk about how
I dress. No idea why? Might be cause I'm different, or just keeping it fres
h....or...I should be dressing more like them? OR I sho
uld be going with trends like everyone else?
No idea. But here are some photos of some artists style that I've been infl
uenced by fashionly...also musically.

Rey Aguilar - May Mix

Hello everyone!
Here's a new mix I made last week. It's been a while since I made one. I think its been since February. Not sure where I went with this mix.
I just thought I put my favorite tunes at the moment. I've had a lot of credit on this mix. But to me I did not feel it as much as
everyone else did. Lately I've been underestimating my music. I'm not sure why? Maybe I can always do better than what I can already do?
I always try to push myself with me and my music. Trying to have my own sound, style, be different from everyone else. But then again I
try not to take this music thing seriously, its all fun for me in the end.
Recently I got contacted from a label based out of Spain called Moma Recordings. They told me they like my music and wanted to release an
EP for me. I sent them a few tracks I had laying around that have been sitting here waiting to be picked up. Sure enough they liked the tunes
to release. Not sure when exactly its coming out but it should be 3 tunes and remix on the EP. Stay tuned for that. More is to come!
ALSO I updated my soundcloud account so more music can be added later. Its a nice lil source to upload music!

cheers!

Rey Aguilar - Always Be My Baby

Out Now on petFood Music. My latest tune 'Always Be My Baby' is out now on Beatport!
http://beatport.com/s/r10uit

EP has been supported by:
Anthony Attalla,Oscar G, Danny Daze, DMS12, Droog, Edu K, Gina Turner,Martin Discobelle, Nacho Lovers and many more!

What uuup everyone. Haven't posted on here in a while. Once again I've been a little busy with music and work lately. Here's a record I did that just got released on petFood music based out of LA & Miami. I had made this tune for my mum really and for someone who I thought that was special to me. Anyways, I've been wanting to make a disco cut for a long time that has a old school house flavor. So..I had sampled The Bee Gee's 'More than a woman'. Never thought anyone would pick this up and actual releasing it. I made this for fun and for myself. I'm surprised with the support it has gotten from other dj's/producers. Overall I think this EP is amazing. It's totally different from what other disco cuts that are being sampled these days. That being said...show some love ya'll!!
There has been a lot of you guys asking for a new mix from me. Yes I know I've been slacking on the mixes. Starting next month I'll be back on track with mixes and more releases.
Stayed tuned ya'll ;)
Oh yea....watch out for Retrovox these next couple months =x

Here's a mix that Jay wanted me to check out earlier this month. He told me its one to definitely to check out. My favorite tunes on this mix is Soul Clap - Kissing Game and Kink - Tropic, also the epic and house track of 2009 Tony Lionni - Found a Place. Very nice, smooth tracks....and mix! Check it out everyone. Def a mix to download!

Rey Aguilar - Brick City House Mix

Hello, Hi.
Here's another mix I did this month for my good friend/dj/producer Sista Stroke based out of London, UK! I did a mix for her a few months back. It was more on the deep, sophisticated side of house music. I thought I'd change it up and make something more dance-floor friendly. This mix is more of my peak hour tunes. A lot of mashups I did. My mixing is faster than I usually do. It's a fun mix all around and I enjoyed it. And I hope you do too! Sista Stroke was kind enough to pass me the download link so you can stream/download the mix.

Also you can read the full write up she did about me on her show at:

Rey Aguilar - Martleb EP

Hello everyone!
My Martleb EP is finally out! Its been almost half a year since I finished these tunes. Now they are out to buy on Beatport.com and other online retailers. It has gotten amazing feedback from top djs such as John Digweed, Hernan Cattaneo & Chris Fortier. I would never think djs like them would ever listen to my tunes. Big accomplishment on my end and I'm really happy about this release. It contains all sorts of styles to techno, tech house & deep house.

2009 now 2010

Happy New Year to all. I haven't been active on this blog for a few weeks. I've been a little busy moving into a new pad. Also of course keeping myself busy with music. Gotta say 2009 was a great year for me. Meeting new people as always. Went to Miami WMC for the first time and had the time of my life there. Random people noticing me at the clubs recognizing me from myspace. Went on a trip to LA...which was ok. Most importantly about 2009 was coming back home from Miami and started working on my own material. Getting influenced from seeing the djs; Luciano and Dennis Ferrer gave me so many ideas. As soon as I got my new laptop in early summer, all I did was work on music non-stop, a machine! I finished about 10 tunes in about 3-4 months. Something I thought I'd never do. Next thing you know, all the tunes are getting signed to 2 record labels which is Chris Fortier's 'Fade Records' and Lazaro Casanova's 'petFood'. My Martleb EP comes out the end of this month which I'm excited about.
2009 I was also involved on bringing and opening the djs of Chris Fortier, Steve Porter, MC Flipside and Lazaro Casanova. Which were all great parties!
I really like to thank my close friends & family that has helped me push myself in this music business...you know who you are!!! Hoping bigger and better things for 2010. I'm sure it will come. Stay tuned!
